I chose to study abroad to discover a new country and a new culture. Furthermore, I decided to study at Kobe University because I wanted to continue taking law courses and because I liked the city of Kobe. Studying abroad in Japan offered me the opportunity to develop in an international environment and improve my language skills, which I could put to good use when applying for future work placements or jobs abroad. Above all, this choice is fully in line with my career aspirations. With an interest in the Public Affairs and Public Policy Management majors, I plan to sit the competitive examinations for senior civil service positions, particularly those for the ENM, whilst also being interested in a career as a lawyer, as demonstrated by my one-month placement at the law firm Seban Avocats in Paris. Furthermore, the law faculty campus and the library also won me over. The studious atmosphere of the law faculty, recognised in Japan for its academic excellence, was another factor in favour of Kobe University. Furthermore, whilst conducting my research, I learnt about the city of Kobe, which left a very positive impression on me. A coastal city on the shores of the Seto Inland Sea, Kobe boasts a cultural heritage stretching back centuries and splendid scenery (Osaka Bay, the Akashi Strait Bridge, etc.). It struck me as the perfect balance between a major metropolis and smaller towns, as well as the promise of cultural diversity and a change of scenery. Its ideal geographical location is also worth mentioning. Situated just 30 minutes by public transport from Osaka, and 25 minutes by train from Kyoto, Kobe seems to be the perfect destination for exploring Japan, a country in which I have a keen interest due to its history and culture.
